Port Friendliness

I know that is a strange title, but here is something that I have been considering, I know that in Cozumel and Nassau, the locals are pushy to get you to come in their shop and buy from them, I know it is how they make a living, but I am a shopper who likes to be left alone. In Key West, I am not badgered as much to buy items.

How is it on Alaskan, Hawaiian, New England cruises? are the local vendors pushy? Just random thoughts running through my mind, thanks for your responses!

I found Alaska to be very subdued and not pushy at all as far as retail.  I didn't notice any "street vendors" in Ketchikan, Skagway or Juneau.

We’ve never seen any aggressive sales people at all in any of those destinations.

I have not run into any aggressive behavior of the ports that you mentioned.  As for Nassau, I think that is the worst.  I do not even want to get off the ship there.  Cruises keep stopping there although many passengers do not like to go there.  The cruise lines must have a vested interest for doing so.

I've never been to Nassau and I don't have any ideas why you say that. I would want to travel all over the world if I could and that's even including Nassau. Why do you think that's a bad place to go to?

I would say that for pushiness any port on Jamaica tops the list. For sketchy then Nassau. Anyone able to comment on the NE New England and Canadian ports?

I haven't run into any pushy vendors in Alaska or Hawaii.

Alaska was fine,  I'm sure that most American and Canadian ports are fine to visit.  When in other countries they are more pushy.  The worst I have run into is in Turkey.

Hi New Englanders aren't pushy as much as they can be interpreted to be abrupt. Hawaiians are very warm and welcoming. I grew up on Oahu and remember that as true from childhood as well. Can't speak to AK.

I think the worst I experienced was Romana, Dominican Republic.  It was scary.

AK ports were extremely friendly and welcoming.
