Pets

I wonder if I am the only person on the planet that worries about their fur babies while they are gone. I need to keep in constant contact with home. For instance, 2 years ago our black lab escaped. Someone found her and turned her into the Humane Society. She had been up to date with her shots but they administered them anyway. She had a skin condition that we had spent over $1000 battling to no avail. The humane Society would not release her to my baby sitter unless there was proof that she was under a vets care. I had to fill in the blanks and she got home safe the next day to the tune of $85.
I have seen many people on cruise forums stating, why do you need your phone or the internet? You are on vacation. I have no real children so my fur babies are everything to me. I cry whenever we leave them.
Am I alone here?

Having pets is a responsibility.  When I had my 2 Jack Russel's they were too much of a hand full for my parents to dog sit them.   I am lucky that one of my good friends is a Master pet groomer and liked my pups.   He dog sat for me when I would take a vacation.  The only problem was that the dog would get spoiled at his house with his 3 dogs to play with,  walks 3 times a day and him or roommate home all day.  When I'd go to pick them up the dogs would about ignore me and just look at me and then go back to what they were doing.

Since they have passed away I have not gotten another dog so I'm free to travel.

Our lab has passed away 2 weeks before Thanksgiving but we had 2 cats as well. Since then, I have brought home a kitten. We have a foreign exchange student so we have my non husbands aunt staying here to be with him and to pet sit. We usually go in the summer when we have no exchange students but we could not pass this up.

We are fortunate to have family close so our Labrawuss retriever spends the holiday with the grand kids and their dog. It's all one big happy.

We leave ours in good hands.  However, one did pass unexpectedly while we were away one time.   It happens.   Sad, of course. We are down to two cats.  When they pass, we will start all over again.  Cats from a shelter, always.  Never saw the need to buy a cat. Plenty in need of adoption.  A dog, well, that depends.  We do have certain breeds in mind, including of course another Shiba inu.  We may try a rescue group for a particular breed. Nothing is set in stone.

All of my pets have either come from a shelter of they were strays in someone's back yard. They make great pets. We have two 3 year old cats and a 4 month old kitten.
