Off Topic : Drink this to avoid or get rid of a cold

before you say anything, I got sick ON the cruise. For two weeks before we drank this tea daily to avoid getting sick.   We heard about this and tweaked it a bit.  It tastes a lot better than it sounds, and you won't smell of garlic.

Garlic Tea

into 4 C of water add the following:

zest & juice of 1 lemon

zest & juice of 1 lime

5 cloves of garlic,  pressed ( crushed if you don't have a press ), include what doesn't press through

1 thumb of ginger, pressed ( grated is ok )

optional:

1 piece of turmeric, pressed ( this will give it a bright yellow colour, and a bit of a kick, but it's good for inflammation)

bring just to a boil, then turn down and simmer for 10-15 min.

into a mug add honey to taste, then pour the tea through a fine strainer into the mug.  Drink it as hot as you can stand it.  You can drink it cold, but it works better hot.

before you say how terrible this sounds, it actually has a tropical taste.  You won't have garlic coming out of your pores as the heat neutralizes that compound.

Enjoy & feel better.

oh, if you don't have a zester, use a vegetable peeler to remove the zest.  And don't be tempted to throw the lemon and lime into the mix. The piths are bitter.

Nothing worse than being sick while on a cruise...Been there done that!

DH caught his "crude" on our Panama Canal transit... Two days before we got off the ship he became so sick he wanted to stay in bed and sleep (very rare for him).  It made him decide that 10 days is too ling for a cruise.  I don't think your drink would have helped.

OK, You drank this and still got sick?

Isn't that like putting the cart before the horse? or something like that?

I think that my husband caught your cold online. He is a few days into his cold and feeling miserable. He never gets sick so you can imagine how he is taking this. I must have said "God Bless You" to him 100 Xs. Now he is coughing. Perhaps I'll prepare your drink for him. As for me, a Gin & Tonic with a wedge of lime sounds better to get me through his cold. Feel better!

My DIL always makes that tea when they are sick and it works for them, but she leaves out the garlic and adds honey to sweeten it. It even smells good while its being prepared.

We were drinking it, then we left and didn't drink it for a week.  I started feeling lousy about 8 or 9 days in.
