Review by KelsBells

Just didn't meet expectations - especially the food

In response to review, Johngold says ...

Were you not made aware of the per diem policy for the general tips by the TA you used or the Agent at NCL? That was the first thing my agent told me when I booked my Bermuda cruise for next year.

Did you enjoy the Island? That's why we are going back.

Hi John.‚  Yes.‚  We were aware of the cost ahead of time.‚  I think BECAUSE we paid it ahead of time I had some sort of expectation that the service and things would be better than what it was.‚  I also enjoy the opportunity on other cruise lines to tip as I see fit, according to the level of customer service that the room service attendants, host/hostesses, waiters/waitresses provide.‚  I just felt like they didn't really TRY as hard as other cruise lines.

Kelsbells: ‚  Disney and Celebrity are premium cruise lines, ‚ NCL is not. ‚ In my opinion on NCL you need to get the premium dining package to get good food, ‚ (the Steak House and French restaurant were‚ good, ‚ the free MDR was not good) ‚ I have been blasted by some people on her because I state that NCL has bad service and bad food but that‚ is just my opinion.

Thank you for your review and your opinion of the cruise.

I will confirm that the food in the main dining rooms is not a quality product.  It's inexpensive food with lots and lots of starch and is poorly prepared and presented.  AND, it is LOADED with salt.  I think it is the only "spice" that Norwegian uses.

Sorry JusMe, I am not blasting but I have had a different experience in the MDR on NCL and do not consider them to be sub standard. I spent 14 nights on the Dawn last November and ate on 10 of those nights in the MDR and not once did I have a reason for complaint. In fact I thought the meals were outstanding.

It seems that depending on the cruise, the mood and expectations of the cruiser and the staff at the time, that experiences do seem to vary. Please Kelsbells do not let one experience taint your future opportunities to enjoy the many varied tastes and pleasures of any of the cruise lines.

There will always be those not so good days but on the same ship there are also many of those awesome days and meals.

Enjoy them all, good or less than stellar and then book another cruise Wink

Cheers,

Thank you for posting your review.

I agree w/JusMe, NCL should not be compared with Disney, Celebrity or Princess. Personal experiences aside, they are not on the same tier of cruise quality and customer‚ experience.

It is so difficult to gauge something based on personal opinion so of course ymmv. ‚ That said, if we were considering an NCL cruise, we would compare it to Carnival... not to Disney or Celebrity.
