I'm not sure I consider any of the retail shopping on board to be "exceptional". We find the cost of most jewelry to be quite high for what it is. Most of what is offered is not to my taste anyway. The other issue, and I have heard people's complaints on this regarding everything from art to watches is that there is no reasonable recourse if there is a problem with it once back on terra firma. For us, the retail shops are a pass through rather than a destination on the ships.

I always enjoy checking out the cruise shops. If I have leftover onboard credit I'll drop it in one of the stores. I have read some reviewer complain that there was little available for shopping so they should be happy with this ship. However, most passengers do not take cruises to shop in the ship's boutiques.

If needed I can shop at home, other then a polo shirt I do not shop on a ship. I would not book a cruise ship because they have a certain store on them.

I guess it had to happen, cruise ships turned into floating resorts and now they are turning into floating malls....... whats next a extra charge food court with Panda Express and McDonald's ?

I live in NY. I have found better deals here, you just have to look. That being said, back in August, I found the Breakaway to be lacking in NCL branded clothes. Considering the size of that ship, the onboard shopping is, in my opinion, terrible. Small commissary, located in a not a lot to offer liquor area. The usual jewelry shopping, but not a great selection. Outdated , sort of, digital cameras that can be had for a lot less at B&H Photo.

I sometimes buy Pandora-style bracelets.. and wear them... And to me, they do not look much different from my real Pandora when I wear them together.. I've mixed and matched beads even. I've bought make up at Sephora while on the Liberty because MAKE UP!

Other than that I agree, I am not that interested in shopping while on a cruise ship. Maybe because there is so much of it where I live...

The only time we have spent anything reasonable in the cruise ship shop was to get rid of the $200 non refundable on board credit that we had been given by NCL for an administrative error. We could only drink so many speciality coffees and therefore spent $160 on a nice bottle of perfume for my Wife. This is certainly a lot more than we would ever pay in a land based shop at Christmas time.
