Cruise Fever Reports:  Grand Cayman Concept: Cable Cars Could Replace Cruise Tenders

"The cable car concept is called Cayman’s Sky Bridge, and is the idea of James Whittaker, CEO of GreenTech Group.  He said that his design can provide berthing facilities for up to four cruise ships at a time, preserving the coral reefs that are feared to likely be destroyed if a pier is built."

Neat idea!

An excellent idea. Use a wave power technology or solar panels for powering the cable cars and this becomes a very green and efficient solution.

Great idea,  quick and fun for most people.   I do have a friend that would not get off the boat that day,  He has an issue with heights and being over water (he will not fly over the ocean,  only a TA cruise to get to Europe)  I just wounder about how it works in windy days ? and bad weather ?

Great idea but surprises me a bit.  How are they going to deal with the effects of salt water on the cables.  I'm not sure why they don't consider the same kind of extending docks that they use in Geiranger, Norway.  Truly ingenious!

Sounds like an exciting idea!  I would enjoy the ride.  Will it really be faster than tendering?  I was once almost stranded when high winds and a fog rolling in caused the cable cars to stop running in Canon City, CO.  We got on the last cab out. Wondering if that could be a problem for cruise ships?  At least it is innovative.
