Mosquitoes, Alaska Inland Passage. Any Inputs?

How bad are mosquitoes in the Alaska Inland Passage Region?

My Alaska Cruise is in two weeks and two days! I think it’s going to be awesome, mosquitoes or not.

I know it’s not as bad as the mosquitoes of the Alaska North Slope (Look it up on YouTube, it’s insane the amount of mosquitoes there) but I suspect there must be some since the mosquito is after all the “State Bird” of Alaska.

Thank you everyone for your responses. Cruise is on Sunday and I’m ready for a break.

I wish I could retire right now! Work isn’t difficult but I’m so tired of having to deal with the FAA.

I’m wondering if I can find work in Alaska as a Kodiak Bear Wrestler during this cruise and not come home?

Kennicott are you out there? Can you set me up?

Love to have you here. But the truth is, the grass always appears greener on the other side. Stick with fighting the FAA there, we have so many problems with big oil running our state into the ground up here right now that it is simply depressing. But regardless, hope you do enjoy your visit. On the other hand, it sounds like a big bear year in the making. I haven't had a chance yet to get out to my summer haunt but what my friends say is that the bears are everywhere and very fat. They say they look like they normally do or should in the Fall, they should be skinny and worn looking now but aren't. And that is just the blacks and cinnamons, the grizzlies are still high in the hills. Wait until they start showing, if you want a good wrestling adventure.

I’m taking my binoculars and hope to see lots of wild life. Thanks for the info.

Good grief, in the Seattle hotel room wide awake at 5am. I barely slept, really excited about the cruise.

I’ll take Lyft out to the pier in a few hours. Going to try and sleep again.

We did our Alaskan cruise in June and didn't encounter any mosquitos in the cruise port. We did take a bus tour to Caribou Crossing (CarCross) and they were BAD there for some reason.

Your experience makes my point in my first post here. Carcross is about 100 miles, as the crow flies, from tide water. In other words, it is in prime mosquito breeding fresh water country. No salt water or brackish water for miles. Actually, the worst I ever experienced mosquitoes in Alaska didn't occur in the interior but only a couple of miles, at the most, from tide water and very close to brackish water.

our cruise departs Vancouver Friday. Although I’m travelled extensively, I’ve never set foot in Alaska and can’t wait! Next time, maybe I’ll drive up to camp and do a ton of hiking!

Only two bug bites in Skagway while on rock climbing excursion. (We were actually out side of the Skagway border, sorry don’t remember the area’s name).

No mosquitoes encountered.

Beside repellent, using a dryer sheet (rubbing it on) is also is effective.
