Memorial Day Weekend

Back in the day, before it became a three day party weekend and the event that marked the "beginning" of summer, I remember Memorial Day Weekend was a time to honor our patriots, remember those who gave their lives for our freedom ... go to the cemetery at the crack of dawn and watch the honor guard do ceremonies ... small children would run and collect the shell casings as though they were treasure,,, graves would be freshly decorated and groomed.  Flags were EVERYWHERE - porches, cars, yards, boats ...I remember picnics and relatives talking about the war(s) ... I remember feeling proud to be an American and that my daddy had served in the Navy...it was a very different vibe back then and I'm sad to see it gone by the wayside ....

To those of you who served or are serving our country, thank you ... I appreciate your sacrifice and courage.  For those we have all lost who served, we will always remember and appreciate what you did on behalf of this country and countries around the world!

Stay safe this weekend my friends! And don't forget to give thanks for those who serve and served ...

Thank you to all that have served.

Thank you to all you serve/have served.

Dad was a WWII First Armored Division disabled veteran.  He was so proud of his service.  We buried him on Memorial Day 2006.  He would have loved knowing that.

We are a different generation today, with time and priorities so varied from our parents and grandparents. I too remember the past days of parades, flags, and family picnics. I see our senior veterans proudly wearing their WWII, VFW, Ship and/or Service ball caps,

I am part of the problem today. I spent 6 years in the Navy 1973-1979, yet I do not attend a parade, nor have joined a Veterans organization, nor wear a ball cap. I am working 32 hours this 3-day weekend so I can selfishly help pay for another cruise and our monthly bills.

While proud of my past service, I do little publicly to honor that service. Thank you, to all who do acknowledge those that gave their lives on this Memorial Day weekend. Thanks to their ultimate loss, we can enjoy our 3-day weekend any way we choose. Respectfully submitted.

.....now, go out and get those mattresses at 30% off Big Smile

Everyone enjoy the holiday and thank anyone you know who served our country.
