Luggage weight

Last November I flew from Seattle to Venice with my brother and sister inlaw.  When we checked in in Seattle they weighed my carry on bag but not my back pack,  no issues.    On the return flight my bags weighed in no problem 5 pounds under limit (she weighed my carry on bag and my backpack).  My brother's bag was 3 pounds to heavy,  my sister inlaw bag was under weight.

You would not believe it,  but the counter clerk at Lufthanas made a big deal of it.  She knew we were all traveling together (all the same last name) and over all we were under weight but she was going to charge my brother for being 3 pounds over.   We ended up taking a few pounds out of his bag and putting them into my bag.   What is the difference,  all the bags went on the same plane ?  combined bags still weighed the same.......So why the hassle of shifting 3 pounds of laundry ?

This was also the first time that my Granola bars had to be taken out of my back pack and inspected including a swab of the zip lock baggie I had them in.   This was done both in Seattle and in Venice.  Security is stepped up in airports.

Yep, that’s what it’s al about! Profit, while I agree the airlines are in the business to make money. It’s seems they are going to extreme. Just my take.

NO its about safety! could you imagine if all the passengers had an extra 3 pounds in their carry on?

You missed the point ... not all passengers were over there were 2 travelling with that person that were under so overall they were ok. $$$$$ is correct. Someone was just being very anal about this.

We had a similar situation at an airport where our 2 bags were fine when added together, but separately one was a couple of pounds over and the other was under. The agent told us nicely, the airline regulations state that each persons luggage can’t be more than 50 lbs (?), or the person is charged for excess. He was right, we did read that but thought they would consider the total for husband and wife checking in together. It was easy to move a couple of things from one bag to the other, but crazy that they are so stringent.

We should have known better and been prepared, since we always read the contract and fine print. LOL

Have you have you seen some of these pilots ? Does it matter if I carry an extra two pounds in my colon or my shorts ? Two pounds is two pounds right ?

i hope some of you get a laugh before this gets deleted

I wanted to point out some of the people in line, I'm thin and I know lots of other passengers were 20 to 100 pounds heavier then I am....... but I kept quiet and was P.C.

Very good point. Wink
