Long Beach LA

When we dock at LA long beach in Oct 2018 Princess Grand any suggestions on what to do. We have looked at the ships excursions but nothing really sticks out. The only thing we thought would be worth doing is an open top bus tour and walking along the main beach and shopping streets. How far is the journey to the beach from the ship and is it best to arrange transport such as a taxi in advance or would experienced cruisers always recommend  using the ships excursions.

Check out Shoreline Village which is on the other side of the bridge. It's within walking distance if you like to walk. I've done that walk a few times now. It really isn't too far although it looks like it. Or you can get a taxi, uber, or lyft over there.

There are several shops, a chocolate shop named Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory that has several great treats. There's a nice park adjacent to the Village that has great views of the cruise port.

Well, I just read recent Yelp reviews for Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and they are overwhelmingly negative. So maybe you might not want to go there. When I went over a year ago it was fine. Anyhow, I think Shoreline Village in Long Beach is a neat place to go. Lots of shops, you can rent a bicycle there and ride around along the water, or just walk along the water.

If it were me, I'd probably see about a tour of Queen Mary.

If you do the tour of the Queen Mary, remember, holders a current cruise card get $10 admittance.

Frankly if it weren't for that deep discount I wouldn't bother going on the Queen Mary for the price of $32 for just the regular admission. But that's coming from someone that's visited several times and has seen the ship slip into bad shape.
