Just In Case !

what is one item you pack for that Just in Case  moment ?   I’m not talking about Imodium AD, or Lactaid or anything like that.   I mean what is it you shove in your suitcase or Dopp kit that you totally forget about, until you need it.   Maybe it’s an eyeglass repair kit.   How about a multi tool with that little hammer on it’s handle ?  Some duct tape wrapped around an old credit card?

A hidden stash of cash ?

For me, it’s something called the Figure 9 rope tightener.   It’s from a company called Nite-Ize.  Used with a length of paracord I have used it to tie luggage pieces together, or to tie a purchased  â€œcarry off “ piece of artwork to the front of our luggage.  It’s about 3x2 inches. The paracord is about 6’ long.  It takes up no room, and just stays in my toiletry bag til I have a reason to use it.

My DH has an extensive first aide kit (retired physician). He had his multi-tool taken away when we cruised to Alaska, so he usually leaves it home now.

I don’t know why they take away Multi tools.  TSA took away a brand new SAK , but it my honest opinion they wanted it.  It was taken on my return trip from Atlanta.  NY let me fly with it in my carry on.

My DH's comment was "do they think I'm going to dismantle the ship one screw at a time?!?" You might be right, sometimes they just "want it".

I always take my pocket knife. But if I try to hand carry it, it is gone for certain. Even my corkscrew, they will take, so all that goes in checked baggage.

While some of these gadgets will indeed come in handy. Here is my idea of a guest outfitted with the ultimate in cruise ship readiness.

I think it was you BAK, who gave me the idea to take duct tape wrapped around a credit card. We haven’t needed it yet, but one of these trips we might. I always have an eyeglass repair kit and a pair of old glasses just for emergencies too. A small sewing kit and small First aid kit always get tossed into a carry on bag.

We did luggage express before Carnival discontinued it.  DH realized he had forgotten to pack his Dad's pocket knife.  We had to search through Miami for an open FedEx location on the weekend and send the knife back home.

Might have been.  I keep some in my bag.  Although, I think I gave it away last cruise, or the one before.  I’ll have to look.

His leatherman was in the checked luggage.  I take a sewing kit and it has come in very handy on several occasions.  I also toss in "shout wipes" when we  ashore that have been worth their weight in gold.

Being single and willing to mingle ............ I need not say more.
