Hi I'm back. Island Princess was okay. Another cruiser I met on the ship agreed with me that she certainly will not be the first choice for my next Princess cruise. The lack of public areas was certainly a factor.
The workers did a good job but they weren't a happy staff like I saw on the Grand.
Might be because we all had two nights of no sleep, the crew was certainly effected by what we went through. Very strong winds and high seas. Not a cloud in the sky but the seas got to be hills for over two days. My room steward had to take one day off sick and the guy that replaced her was in bad shape too. We had high winds that got up to force 10 one day. We had to skip Astoria because of the weather. Even some of the veteran cruisers said the sea was horrible. Worst I've seen so far. But in a way I enjoyed it since it was something different to experience.
The gym, yikes, I hated it so much I only went three times. The last visit was abbreviated. Outdated terrible equipment, depressing dark brown room thrown in at back center of ship, and just a bad vibe in there. One guy in there said it wasn't even worthy of being called a gym. Grand Princess is an older ship and has good equipment. Why can't Princess get all the ship's gyms up to speed? They certainly have the cash.
The main thing that made the cruise enjoyable was the great people I met. Lots of Canadians, god I love Canadians!!! They all make the Western Hemisphere a better place. Oh and I had a Coffee Crisp in Canada which aren't sold in California. I LOVE those candy bars.
I'll do a full review later.
