Interactive Luggage & other ID Tags - Pros & Cons

The new technology in luggage tags is to have limited personal information on tags that others can see.  Information that can easily be updated is instead stored on icloud and a code is on the tag. Using a smart phone, the finder of your lost bag can contact you.   Here is a general information article that explains about the tags.

Well the first thing that comes to mind is can they use the info to find my house and rob it?

Another thing that comes to mind, will the items constantly beep, whistle, and talk to you like these super annoying cars and other interactive gadgets that won't shut up.

I'm happy with my mute bags and ID tags for now.

I have a smart phone, and my work phone is also smart ( so they tell me). I might do that with the luggage tags if I can input the information myself. Something like creating my own bar code or qr thingy. Might be an idea for the future.

Interesting. The bar codes the airlines put on luggage tags sure helps when the pieces don't arrive at your destination?

Scary!

We will have to see if any of these dire things happen when this comes into more widespread use.

Luggage tags now have your address and sometimes phone number, so the QR code might be no different from, or even better than the current system of identification. Only people with access to scanners would know where you live, whereas now, anyone near the luggage area can see the information.
