Income generators on cruise ships

ships are getting larger Angry, prices are going down in order to fill them AngryAngry.  Cruising is rapidly losing its cache.   Yet the nickel and dimeing is getting worse.  Want to see a penny get flattened and embossed with a ship or "LUCKY PENNY " , it will cost you $1 on NCL.

How about all those stacks of bills in the claw machine, or the KeyMaster machine ?  Tempting I know, but at $2 a pop !  Not to mention the fact that by using your s&s card you can't keep track of how much you've spent.

So, I started thinking of other ways the cruise lines can make money.

1). Water slides.    They're getting bigger, charge per slide.  Parents won't say no to their kids, and at a lowly $2 per, the ship will still make a fortune.

2). Restroom vending machines. Remember the days of putting a quarter in a wall mounted machine that spritzed some cologne ?  How about vending a Carnival Condom or Tampon ?  What a great souvenir for $1.

3). Set up a dining venue based on the Automat ( google it )

4). Golf cart rides to the end of the pier and back.  Too long a walk just to get to the fun, too tired when you get back, take a shuttle to the entry point, and back!  $1/passenger/ trip.

Other ideas ?

Sad to say but I can see these things happening!

  • Admission to an "exclusive" nightclub on board.
  • Ultra Serenity Decks with Bouncers to keep the kids out.
  • Fees for requested dining times - you do NOT want to wait for a table do you?

1) $5/hr for lounger by pool

2) $79.95/FTTS  Reserved seating for shows

Whew was wondering if that was Faster To The Shower :)

Great idea!!!  Let me message the beards :)

You want to use one of the public restrooms on the ship instead of going in your cabin - $1.00

You want to use the library - $1.00 You want to check out one of the library books - $1.00/day

You want to talk to someone at the front counter -$5.00

They could go the way of the airlines:  to bring your luggage to your cabin $25-35/bag otherwise you must find it in the auditorium and bring to your cabin after it has inspected.  Carry-on bags will cost $10 to have them scanned before you board.  At least it would cut down on the over packing by some of us.  Debbie would be OK, she just needs a swim suit and a cover-up. Wink

How about:

Letting your minor roam the ship unescorted by an adult:  $100 fine

2nd offense:  $500 fine and we put all of you off at next port

JCOKMLs idea is the only one I like.  The rest of you are crazy to even suggest or joke around about adding more fees.  The cruise lines will do it!  Angry

...but....but....Bennett started it.....Crying

I think what he meant is the cruise lines will get ideas from this thread and implement them.  I read somewhere that they do review the different cruise line forums out there, including this one I'm sure.
