I Hate Texas

Getting my pre-cruise purchases out of the way for my January cruise out of Galveston.

I purchased the drink package, but due to Texas law, it will not take effect until the morning after sailaway. Of course, they will be more than happy to sell you drinks outside of the package as soon as you board.

Not a problem. I can always buy a bottle for the room for sailaway -- NOT!

If I order a bottle of Bacardi Oakheart, they cannot deliver it until the second day. They will deliver a bottle of Malibu Coconut rum for sailaway, though. (Only $90)

I realize this is entirely Texas' fault and not that of the cruise line.

That being said, I need to cruise.

We are always frustrated when we sail out of Texas port, it messes with our "champagne" bottle in the cabin for the sail away.  It is also problem at the Renaissance Festivals in Texas.  You can only buy one drink at time (not able to buy one for yourself and another person) and you must "join" the local drinking club (no cost just a PIA).  At least it isn't a dry state (county) where you can't buy alcohol at all.Big Smile

I remember living in Indiana and having to drive to Ohio.

Oh well -- I guess my new sailaway song Galveston is

Tomorrow,

Tomorrow,

I love you,

Tomorrow,

You're only a day away.

Pack a bottle... Heh heh heh....

I'm sure my boss would be impressed with my smuggling antics!Big Smile

And know how.... Naaa, just wait till ya leave US waters.  It's only 13 miles.

You can still carry on a bottle of wine... I know it's not the same, but it's better than nothing.

I do not recommend, endorse, or condone the following.  It is possibly illegal and definitely immoral.  I am sharing as an anecdotal account only.  We know of people who had access to a wine corking and sealing kit.  Prior to corking, they filled the wine bottles with whisky.  They called it “winesky”.  And no, the people we know are not us!

I had thought about the "Winesky" idea (I do have the equipment) however I do agree with you.

I'm still trying to decide if I want to chance taking a couple of bottles of mead aboard. John Heald said it would be OK, but the port security doesn't work for him.

I'll probably just camp out in the Red Frog Pub the first day and see how many Fishbowls I can devour Big Smile. I only gotta pay for my own drinks until 6 AM the next morning!

This sucks.....

I think I would go with the wine, I've been known to put a bottle of wine away in a night before.

On the bright side, if this is the worst of my problems, I'm in outstanding shape!Happy
