We've just returned from our cruise on the NCL "Epic". We stayed in the "Haven" Courtyard penthouse suite. Our question is, what's the general rule for tipping your personal Butler and Concierge over the course of the cruise? We couldn't seem to get any type of answer on this question. The $24 a day that is automatically taken out of your shipboard account for general tips does not include the Butler or concierge. Although we have always left extra $ for exceptional service, we think it would've been a very good idea from a travel agent / cruiseship to point out the fact that this is something completely separate and to keep that in mind while budgeting for your vacation.

How to tip while staying in the NCL haven for MSC yacht club

Hi freelance! Norwegian says: “for guests using…butler services, we recommend they consider offering a gratuity commensurate with services rendered”. I’ve never seen anything on MSC other than the standard daily “service charge”. I guess the bottom line is that nothing extra is required. However we’ve always found that crew members are very appreciative of a little extra cash and we certainly try to reward those who deserve it!
MSC Cruises does not recommend tipping individual members of staff. The Hotel Service charge that is automatically added to your onboard account, serves to ensure we maintain the highest quality standards of service to our guests.
