How to obtain Cuban CUC to spend on the island.

Has anyone been to Cuba on a cruise??? We're going in two weeks and need to know how to obtain the CUC's you need to spend on the island. I've been told I need to take Euros to exchange for their CUC's to be able to spend. I heard they won't trade for American Dollars. Any advice???

Thanks

Last I heard Cubans will take USD.

Canadian dollar too

Everything I've read and our friends that have been there several times say no. They fly and obtain the CUC's when they get to the airport.

Everything I see is old info.  But you can exchange at the airport, just be sure of the exchange rate when you do.  At one point the rate was $1 for 1cuc.  Prior to that there was a 10% surcharge.

‘One site did say, “mostly yes “  to spending USD in Cuba.  You can exchange for CaD I believe before you go.

also Euros

Okay, I have to admit, I am totally confused.   The only advice I can positively give, is to check the exchange rate, and to, as you stated, convert to CUC or CUP at the airport or a currency exchange office.  Exchanging currency will make all transactions easier, just be wary of street vendors giving the wrong change.

enjoy Cuba, I hear it’s an amazing experience.

My friends that have flown there say CUC is the currency they get. I think that's the one that is recommended because it is easy to exchange back. Thanks for your help.

Using US currency is a hit and miss game. What is clear is that you can only exchange for their money in Cuba. They do take Canadian dollars for exchange so that too is a good option. Canadian currency may look like funny money but the Cubans recognize and love it.

Yes, I was aware of the Canadian money also but will be going to Europe next year so if I have left over I'll just keep it instead of taking a hit exchanging it again. Thanks so much for your response!!
