How safe do you feel on a cruise ship?

There have been  lots of reports of crime on cruise ships over the years.  Do you worry about safety when you cruise?  I honestly feel very safe when cruising.

Never worry about it.   But then again, we never place ourselves in dangerous situations.

Every time I travel, I reach out to

A) My travel consultant.

B) External Affairs Canada Travel advisory site.

C) U.S. Government Travel advisory sites.

D) James Walker Website

E) News articles.

I've also checked with the security chief on board the ship. I've never had trouble travelling anywhere. However, Personal choices and caution should be the rule, not the exception.

Take care out there and have a bit of fun while you are at it....

I will be going on cruise # 90 next month , and I have had no problems with safety

I agree with all of you, it always pays to be prudent when traveling.  Never temp others by leaving out valuables or documents with your personal information.  Use the safe.  If something or someone makes you feel uncomfortable, follow your instincts and be alert.  Crime can happen on any ship.  Thanks everyone for contributing to the discussion.

I feel safe on ships but I do pay attention to my surroundings,  use the safe and do not wear expensive jewelry.  I have a watch, set of Tux studs and tie pin just for on cruises (I leave the good stuff at home).  For traveling I take my Google Chrome and leave the good lap top at home.

Travel safe,  travel smart, travel often and have fun  :-)

I’m not sure about the statement “There have been lots of reports of crime on cruise ships over the years.”  If you add up all the passengers and all the crew aboard every ship and then compare it to a city with that population for the same time frame would “lots of crime” be accurate?  I don’t know, but I doubt it.

We’ve never felt unsafe for a second aboard any cruise ship.

In port however, we are extremely cautious.  Always be aware of your surroundings.  Never provide undue temptations.  But, most importantly, relax and enjoy your vacation!  Caution and respect are important but fear should never be part of your travels.

Happy cruising!

I feel safe, but I always look around me to see who's around the same as going shopping

I think that the media makes a big splash about the instances of crime onboard ships so it seems like it is rampant.  I hear reports of passengers going missing, getting pushed off balconies, girls getting raped, etc...

Actually I feel very safe on ships.  I never give it much thought.  I don't leave jewelry, passport or other valuables like cameras in full view.  I personally have never had anything stolen on a ship.
