How Good is the Cruise Laundry Service?

If you have ever used the laundry service on ships, did it meet your expectations?  Did you ever have something ruined or missing?

We have recently started using the service on Carnival & HAL.  My husband's shirts come back on hangers and everything else is neatly folded and clean.  Nothing was ever missing or ruined.

Once, however, we received someone else's laundry basket.  We quickly called the cabin number listed and she picked it up immediately.  We laughed with her about how her clothes would never have fit either of us as she was a petite Asian lady and quite funny. We became fast friends with her as the cruise progressed.

I'd like to know too.  I've only taken week long cruises so I packed enough not to need the service.  I use if needed for my shirt I wear during a hot dirty day travel soap and the sink.  How is CCLs service?

I'm very picky about my laundry ... hand wash some things, no dryer on others = so I've never used the service.  I have used the coin operated machines when we were on the 3 b2bs and liked that ... You have to be on a fairly long cruise in my opinion to worry about laundry.

My wife is the same way, me not so much. I will send out t-shirts, jeans socks etc. Never had a problem.

Most of the clothing we take on a cruise, I drip dry at home so I rarely use the CCL laundry services (coin operated if needed).  The few times we have, it went well. Returned clean and folded.

I have used the laundry on Celebrity and RCI (I get free laundry on both lines).  I have used the wash and fold and I have had a few items pressed.   Never had a problem,  they were quick and everything was clean and no items missing.

I have only used the laundry when i have done 2 week cruises mixed with a couple weeks to month land trip before or after the cruise.  It is so much easier to send the laundry out then to spend an afternoon or evening of my vacation doing laundry.   I'm not going to pack 4 to 6 weeks of clothing.

Free laundry is one of the most valued of all perquisites for loyal cruisers. We really like it and use it, including the free Elite dry cleaning service on Princess. Never had a problem with damage and we bring formal clothes, two tuxes for me on the longer voyages. More than once they have gotten bad stains out of my white tux coat. On some cruises we have been told there was a three day turn around, but rarely did it take that long. On our last cruise, 29 days, we used the laundry service a lot and it was always one day turn around. Very good, prompt and no rationing. First time I have ever had creases in my cargo pocket Wranglers. I bet we used it over a dozen times, and the cruise had over 80% Elites.

We have only earned free laundry on HAL and Princess, have about 80 more sailing days to go with Regent, until then we will continue using that line's free self service laundry equipment. We have always done it ourselves so never paid to have the Regent's laundry do it for us. To put this into perspective for us, last year we were on a 14 day cruise on the Regal Princess. Our total laundry bill was a little over $500.00 which we got reimbursed 100% for. Not too shabby.

On the negative side: I understand the mass market nickel and dime game is leaning toward no self service laundry facilities at all on some ships.

It is cheaper to just buy underwear and socks (Walmart) to wear and through out then to have to pay ship laundry to wash them.   I'm glad I get free laundry on the cruise lines I use for the longer cruises.

I told my wife one time that sending the laundry out was too expensive, and that I found a place to do it for free. She asked where on the ship is laundry free ?  I told her that at the back of the ship, in the water, is a giant agitator.......

so, to answer your question, the ship laundry service is excellent.

See, what we do, is buy new, but but bring the old stuff and throw it out.  Why throw out new underwear ?

If it's done early in the morning, the rinse cycle can be done on the Serenity deck hot tub.
