Hotel and transportation info

When it's time to arrange for a pre-cruise hotel and transportation, I generally venture over to CC and other travel sites to check out recommendations.  While I've picked up some great tips, I would love to see a forum section here specifically devoted to such things--a section where the threads wouldn't get buried.

There are seasoned cruisers here as well as folks who live near cruise ports.  You guys could give specific advice such as what areas of the city are not places you would be comfortable booking a hotel.

Anybody agree, disagree, or have any suggestions for how this could be accomplished?

Sounds like a good plan.  We made a poor choice of hotels (sorry JusMe) on the last cruise.  The hotel was in the 4:30 AM flight path.  Of course with airport in the name of the hotel, we shouldn't have been too surprised.Surprised

I'll go along with that...there are actually a reasonably limited number of cruise ports in the USA...a section would have to be created structured  by city name..I must tell you tho...TRIPADVISOR does that, and Ive used them off n on for years...all you need is the city name and words like "cruise motel" or "park n cruise" or some such...having said that, theres nothing like a review by a seasoned cruiser.  Theres a whole bunch of garbage in there that's to be taken with a grain of salt...people downgrade a perfectly valid place because the coke machine didn't work...Id rather read one in here...

That’s a great idea GrandmaJo. I’ve read reviews with TripAdvisor for hotels and found them to be very helpful. I’m not fond of CC at all, and dropped out of that site soon after joining. I would prefer to see a place here for hotel recommendations if possible.

Great idea! I know I have asked a couple of times on this site alone. I use trip advisor a lot, but it can be difficult getting the info you want in regards to cruising.

That sounds like a good idea.  We could actually interact with individuals about the specific hotels.

I use Yelp for reviews on lots of things but there’s no way to question individuals about specifics.

We could find out from each other about the hotels and restaurants in the area of the hotel as well.

I've been going direct through hotels using loyalty sites.  I suppose when the points dry up I might go through my TA.  But final decision ends up being based upon location and cost.

I'll say it again, I would use a tool like that as a primary source for possible changing where we stay...I have a list of places we use repeatedly in each port...based on the best recommendation I know....'''.me"...but I would be willing to explore others.  there are several folks in here who's recommendation would cause me to pound some keys or make a phone call..

Great idea and categorize it by departure ports.
