Hawaiian Cruise?

Has anyone taken a Hawaiian cruise? What was your experience? Going to Hawaii is on my bucket list so I was thinking about booking one a little way out since it is more expensive than the usual cruise. What was your experience? Any tips/advice?

Hawaii cruises come in 2 ways.

1. In and out of Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco or Vancouver B.C., 14 to 18 nights on HAL or Princess.

2. In and out of Honolulu 7 cruise or 10 nights (7 cruise and 3 land package) on NCL Pride of America.

On a quick look it looks to be less expensive to take the longer cruise in and out of the west coast then to take the Honolulu cruise. Also Princess and HAL are better lines then NCL. The only down side of the longer cruise would be if you do not like sea days (9 of them out of the 14 days and 1 day in Ensenada Mexico....so only 4 port days in Hawaii)

Now you made me feel old when I thought of how long ago I was in Hawaii (35 years ago when I was in University, back then we got round trip air and 6 nights hotel across the street from the beach for under $300.00 each)

I haven’t heard a lot of good about the Pride of America. Staffed by Americans, who, from what I hear, don’t want to be there.

I noticed a bit of bad reviews about Pride of America as well.

I am going there in august, always was on my bucket list too!

I just got back from my Hawaii Cruise on the Oosterdam , had a great time

Oosterdam Hawaii Cruise

Oosterdam Hilo

Oosterdam in Hawaii

Thanks for all of the input. I was reading some additional reviews and will probably go ahead and book the Hawaiian cruise after we return from our cruise in May. I think with all things there will be good and bad but it is all about your state of mind and how you perceive things when issues may occur.

Just did a 15-day to Hawaii round trip out of LA and it was awesome. Hawaii is great and you can do the same itinerary every year and still find stuff to do. The kids had fun on their first cruise and they ended up liking sea days the best!
