Have you ever missed a booked cruise?

i was wondering how many of you had to miss a booked cruise for any reason:  missed flights, weather related reasons, death in family, health reasons, family emergencies, etc.  ..?  Did the cruise offer compensation?  Did you have insurance?  This has never happened to me, so far. Has it happened to you?

We’ve come close a couple of times but, thankfully, we’ve never had to miss a cruise.  We do always have insurance though.

One time I woke up the night before the cruise with the flu and no way an airline would have let me on a plane let alone the ship.  Another time I blew my back out a month before a cruise and had to miss the cruise for surgery.   The third time Dad got sick a few days before the cruise and we had to cancel.

All 3 times were so close to the cruise that there was no refund from the cruise line.   I did have travel insurance through Vacationstogo.com and they paid out no problem with a doctors note and copy of all the receipts.  I had enough travel insurance to also cover the air tickets and hotel also so I ended up not being out of pocket for anything other then the price of the insurance.

The insurance is a good idea

Sorry about all the missed booked cruises but at least you were covered by insurance.  Lesson learned.

Oh no!  Did you get a refund of any kind?

We had to cancel back to back cruises in Alaska when my brother had a stroke. It was on Princess and we had their insurance. Cruises were refunded without any problem.

Well, we ended up getting a credit.  Which we used on a Royal Caribbean cruise a few months later.  Out of NJ.  Worst cruise we ever took.   Bad food, bad service, poorly stocked stores.  Even the Black Jack tournament had a surprise at the final table.  One person was happy ( very happy )  two others were angry.

To tell the entire story takes time.  There is some humour to it.  Not a lot, but some.  It was the weekend Johnny Carson died.  I'll write it down one day.   Maybe when I get back from my upcoming cruise
