We are the forgotten workers in this country.  Republicans strive to break our unions.  We do the jobs they wouldn't dream of.  We are trained.   We work in dangerous places.  I have worked 700 feet below the city of NY ( and travelled 3 miles to get to the work area ). We earn our money.  As safe as we try to be, accidents happen. Everything from minor injuries to death, have all happened on my jobs.    Our parade here in NY is every other year, and we moved it to the week following Labour Day because guys would use excuses like, it's the last weekend of the summer......the kids are going back to school,........yadayadayada.  Our own members would avoid the parade Angry.

Stores that should be closed, now open early. Just to sell sheets and pillows.   Unions guaranteed the middle class worker a living wage, the ability to buy a home, and raise a family.  We are a dieing breed.  The suburbs of cities like Detroit are becoming ghost towns. Auto workers that once occupied these towns are leaving.  Squatters are taking over the properties.

Given the opportunity, many of us will work and take the overtime.  Then we complain when we lose the holiday.   What is now Presidents Day used to be two holidays.  Labour Day ?   Our days are numbered.  Another holiday that will be lost.   Right along with Thanksgiving Day.  Thank you Wal Mart ( et al ) for caring about your employees and their families.

sorry I ruined your thread

Non union.  You know how I know ?   No work boots, no hard hats, no reflective vests, no respirators, and lastly, Walt Disney was a union hating bast****.     He even tried to break his own cartoonists Union.

Dude, it's okay. Post a funny picture, tip a shot and enjoy the day. Wink

I'm off work today for the first time in years and I'm away for the weekend with my DGF enjoying a free stay at a Hampton Inn.

That sounds like a lovely way to be spending Labour Day.

I, too, am surprised that so many businesses are expecting their workers to come into work today.
