Happy Hurricane Supplication Day!

This used to be a biggie when I lived on St. Croix ...islanders believed that their prayers and services helped ward off potential hurricanes! I'll try anything ... Let's hope this hurricane season continues to be a calm one!

Hurricane Supplication Day

Fourth Monday in July

Observed in the U.S. Virgin Islands—St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John— Special church services are held to pray for safety from the storms that ravage these and other Caribbean islands.

I'm all for it! I lift up a toast to the day! We had friends that just returned for a cruise and got diverted because of the tropical storm in the area. They were bummed the missed Aruba and Curacao, but happy they were on a cruise and safe.

Like sticking pins in an effigy?

As an avid cruiser, I pray for calm weather, especially during hurricane season. We sailed once and Joaquin was slamming Freeport Bahamas. Which was one of our ports. And Carnival diverted us to Key West, which is one of our favorite U.S ports. We were still able to make it to Nassau. That being said, Carnival kept us safe, but we did not escape some of the rough seas. All in all we were fine and had a GREAT time!

Isn't there a tropical storm heading toward Florida right now?

We do something similar here.

I'm so glad we don't cruise during hurricane season. We have been so lucky to have only one day of rough seas in 5 cruises , and 1Bonine worked for me.

I'd be praying along with the others if I was in St Croix right now.
