Haggling in Ports

Do you enjoy haggling in the ports whe you are buying your keepsakes, souvenirs, etc or do you pay the listed price to help the vendors make a living? Do you do it just for markets and street vendors, or in larger stores and restaurants too?

I hate haggling. I'm not good at it and don't care to be because it is something so foreign to me. I felt almost embarrassed when our friend was haggling for some bowls I wanted in Puerto Vallarta.

Yes, at home we've negotiated on a price for homes that we've bought, but I won't even go with my husband to buy a car. If I'm getting a car, I just tell Mike what colour I want, and the top dollar that I'm willing to pay. He knows me well enough to bring home the perfect vehicle.

I will fight or argue more with car dealers then I will with people in markets on a cruise.  Car dealers just irritate my last nerve! lol    If I feel it's a fair price in a market I will just pay it.  I realize they are trying to make a living and I have a soft heart, but I try not to get totally ripped off.  I don't try to over buy either.  I'll let you know how I do on my up coming cruise.... Wink

It all depends, I will in Mexican ports because I think it's expected. But I don't buy keepsakes much anymore. Now car dealers I will fight with.

If I'm buying a number of items, I'll try to negotiate a little.

There can be a language barrier.

The last time I haggled, I ended up getting a silver chain with a bunch of stones for my wife.  Literally.........for my wife.

Fear not, I paid to get her back.

I hate haggling, but my wife loves it. She will shamelessly haggle at DI, usually paying about 60% of the posted price.

My first smile of the day ... thanks BAK

I'll haggle.  I think the vendors expect it.
