Guarantee Staterooms - Worth the risk?

Wondering how many people opt for the Guarantee Stateroom when booking a cruise. Do you want to know exactly where you will be located on the ship or are you willing to be assigned to a cabin (only choosing the minimum level as your preference)?  For those will personal experience, how has it worked out for you (or not)?

Yea, but this is also your business, so I can bet you know a few more tricks of the trade than the newbie signing onto a site....Big Smile

When I was young and poor I'd book a guarantee, In those days you would not know your cabin # or location until you got the "Cruise packet" in the mail. Ship decks plans were not easy to find as there was no internet back then.

Now I pick my cabin and check on a deck plan before I accept it.

DH can't stand the suspense. We did it once. We got lucky with the cabin but we both really like to know exactly where the cabin location is and there are places we prefer not to be!

We had an inside guarantee on our upcoming cruise.... We ended up just springing for the cabin we wanted (balcony ocean view) since we were antsy and wanted to know where our room was going to be and didn't get the feeling an upgrade of that nature was going to happen. Call me chicken... its okay

I prefer to pick my own cabin. The cruise line will say that they gave you an upgrade. It may be on a higher deck but it may also be at the bow or stern of the ship. Once we had no choice, we had to take what the group we traveled with offered - no guaranteed cabin just category and that it what happened. We got a higher deck but at the back of the ship. Luckily it wasn't a problem with rough seas but it could have been. At least we have choices.

I would risk it if I had to.

Nice choice. 4 days to go. Enjoy it.

On our honeymoon cruise back in the day, not only didn't we know what kind of cabin we had, we didn't even know what ship we'd be on until the week of our sailing. We ended up on the Norwegian Skyward in an interior cabin that was barely big enough to turn around in. Neither one of us ever wanted an interior cabin again.

I will! I'm not enjoying the wait though lol
