FREE MEALS

A friend just informed me that her heard on the news that Carnival was planning on changing their Free Food venue. According to her, the only FREE food on future sailings on Carnival will be the breakfast meal. All other meals, lunch & dinners, will cost you. Hope she heard this news wrong. Has anyone else heard this? Was planning on another cruise next year but, if Canival is going to start nickle & diming us like all the other cruise lines,...............

I find that extremely hard to believe. IMO, that would lead to a quick bankruptcy.

I have not seen anything like what you are stating, but they may be considering charging for some previously free food, such as Guys, Blue Iguana and the pizza, but again I have not seen anything.

One thing I did see was that they were going to start charging for all items in room service, but they stepped back on that a few days ago.

She heard wrong, thankfully! So far of all the cruise lines I've sailed, Carnival has the most free venues depending on the ship. And they're all really good! She probably misunderstood when Carnival announced that all room service was going to cost money on Carnival, except the continental breakfast. Which they've since backtracked on and are re-working how they're going to change it. But for sure, regular non-room service venues are safe!

Carny isn't my line of choice, but that would be such a big deal I had to go play...the only thing that's changing is the room service policy during 10pm to 6 am. there'll be charge for that. they claim too much food is wasted..that and they're tightening up the no smoking policy...fwiw, other lines charge for room service, and have for a long time. we get a continental breakfast every morning out on the balcony on NCL...its free, just throw a couple bux to the server who has to schlepp it to your stateroom. Kind of a warm up for a real breakfast a bit later hehehe. Besides, not ALL other cruise lines "nickel and dime" their passengers...but the definition of that term varies from person to person. What some folks think ought to be free....well, multiply that by a dozen or more ships times tens of thousands of passengers and that little item isn't so free anymore.

Yes, just a misunderstanding. But Carnival did say they were "rethinking" their decision to charge for the room service and "looking for new avenues" to help reduce food waste.

Side note, I would cry if I had to start paying for Guy's Burgers lol

Wow .. that change would be a game changer and unless they really reduced their pricing would all but kill their business. I believe as others have indicated this change was in reference to room service and not the MDR or other venues.

Can't see that happening. The bottom would fall out of their business.
