Fort Lauderdale hotel recommendations?

Hi all-

My husband and I have booked our second cruise ever - and we are looking for recommendations for a hotel close to the port in Fort Lauderdale. We won't have a car - so the closer, the better.

Thanks in advance!

We stayed in two in recent years, the first one was in January 2015 and the second in January 2016. We liked them both and I gave them good reviews on Trip Advisor. Next time at Fort Lauderdale we will look at the Marriott Beach Resort first off.

In 2015 we stayed in the "Yankee Clipper" which had just changed hands and is now the "B Ocean Fort Lauderdale". The Yankee Clipper is loaded with history and has some modern wings on it. I stuck my head in the door the next year and it looked like things had gotten better even though we couldn't complain about our stay there in 2015.

In January 2016 we stayed in Marriott Beach Resorts & Spa. These resorts are fairly close to each other and are next to huge public beach areas. They are also close to quite a variety of eateries within walking distance.  Some pretty nice places to eat in this general locale. The cruise ship piers are not much more than a stone’s throw away, however to get to them one must negotiate a maze of elevated highways. Once on the ship from the top deck I could see one of these hotels.

Last year we stayed at LaQuinta airport and it was great. There is an outdoor shopping mall just a block away with several restaurants and stores for last minute items. The hotel has complementary shuttle from the airport and a very good breakfast. They also arranged for shuttle service to the port for only about $10 each.

Hampton Inn Downtown/Las Olas. Very nice and great location. Within walking distance of the water taxi that will take you all around. Last year we stayed at Bahia Mar Doubletree. It's right across from Ft Lauderdale beach. We walked dien towards Las Olas....Lots of great places to eat. Had breakfast at a cute (and inexpensive) cafe with a beach view.
