Excursions - Early or Late?

I usually book excursions in the morning so I have time to explore the port and stay close to the ship upon return.  Do you have a preference?

I prefer morning excursions.

I like the morning outings if we are staying close to the ship. I have been on all day outings, but they were book through the excursion desk. I would hate to be a wharf runner that we see on U-tube.....

We prefer the morning excursions so that we can be sure to be back in plenty of time, wander the port shopping area and then get back on board before there's a long lineup.

I prefer morning excursions and only book an afternoon one if I already have another morning one booked for that port.

Early morning

Mornings---Gives me time to get relaxed after boarding again in order to enjoy the sail away. Early seating also puts a crimp in my plans in addition to screwing up my half price cocktail and free hors d'oeuvere time in the Elite, Platinum lounge, begining at five.

The 15 hour shore excursion days are pretty much behind us now, but I recall more than once getting back to the ship and nothing was open.

I usually try for the early ones for the reasons stated above.

sometimes you get extra time on them

We book early, to give a little buffer should an unexpected delay occur. It definitely worked in our favor last August in Freeport. We did a beach excursion and when it was time to leave there were no vans...and lots of people waiting. We made it back 30 minutes before sail away, but vans were still pulling up 15-20 minutes after the departure time. I saw some running for another ship as well. Truth be told, the port was unexpectedly overcrowded; we were diverted from Belize and Roatan due to the storm and Freeport wasn't expecting ships that day.
