Excursions

Can you book non ship excursions aboard the ship

Simple answer no. If we don’t have an excursion booked we walk off the ship. At almost every port there are folks out on the pier or just outside the gates offering excursions. Just be careful we have done this a lot and have never had a problem. Just remember unless it’s a ships excursion the ship will not wait. We have also booked excursions through this website and have been happy with them.

One negative I've anticipated is you could find yourself not making back to the ship on-time.  But in general agree - we we're in Barcelona and walked not too far from the port, and caught a speed boat tour of the coast line.  Cost us  7 Euros p/p.   Cruise line wanted around 50.

Well .. yes you could so long as you had an internet package .. you can go to a third party web site and book an excursion

In the Caribbean you can walk off the sip and find a tour or taxi easily.  In other countries we like to have private tours organized before leaving home.  We haven't taken a ship's tour since our first cruise twenty years ago, and despite all the dire warnings we have never missed the ship.  We always ask to be back an hour before sailing to be on the safe side.  Tour companies value their reputations and these days when everything is on line, a company wouldn't last long if there were reviews from customers who were left stranded.

smtcan1 appreciate the response, sounds like this may be the way to go and miss the large group crowds.,
