Enchantment of the seas missed the boat due to tropical storm flood waters

I was wondering if anyone else missed the boat for the cruise on the enchantment of the seas on September 20, 2019 due to the flood waters from TS Imelda? We left Lafayette LA at 7:30am and didn’t get to Galveston Texas port until 5:30 PM that evening. At one time we moved 3 miles in four hours on Highway 90. Every road we would try to drive down was closed due to flood waters. Just wondering if anyone else missed the boat.

Sorry this happened to you.

What a horror story. My sympathies! couple years ago we cruised out of Galveston and they predicted massive flooding. Can't remember the name of the storm, not that it matters. We always arrive a day early and decided out of an abundance of caution to leave an EXTRA day early. stayed in motel down the seawall. not a bad place either. munched junk for 2 days and watched the weather. wasn't nearly as bad as the doom n gloom weather "forecasters" predicted. wasn't 2 days from hell, but it wasn't an experience I'd care to repeat. can't imagine what it was like sitting in that car knowing at some point you weren't going to make it. UGH!!

Sorry you had such a bad experience!

Believe it or not, Houston/Galveston really doesn't get hit by these things all that often, (statistically, it is far less often than Miami) but it's always a mess when we do!

I hope your travel insurance paid off.

Good question! Darn good question. under the circumstances...

For anyone coming from the east to catch a ship in Galveston, please be aware!

The San Jacinto River Bridge on I-10 is closed indefinitely after being struck by a barge late last week. It looks really bad, although the state has not been able to fully investigate it yet.

While it is true that people going to Galveston from the East will not need to cross this bridge, the main alternate route is Highway 146, which is you do need to take!

I've heard lots of horror stories about the traffic this morning, so please allow extra hours if you are sailing out of Galveston any time soon!
