Eastern Caribbean Excursions

My husband and I will be sailing on the Carnival Sunshine this coming January to Grand Turk, San Juan, St Kitts, and St Maarten. We are starting to look at our excursions but I would love some recommendations! Happy

When I was in St. Kitts, I took the scenic railroad that goes around the island. The railroad was originally built for the sugar plantations to ship their product. Now it is a tourist railroad. There was a lot of nice scenery & some complimentary drinks. There was also a local sining group that would go from car to car singing Caribbean songs.

I am an aviation fan so when I was in St. Maarten I had to go to Maho Beach. That's the beach right next to the airport where the planes come in real low. You can get a taxi by the pier. It is about $ 9 a person one way. Carnival also has a bus/boat tour that goes around the island. The boat also has complimentary rum punches. They are small & don't taste like they have much alcohol so they can sneak up in you real fast. It was a fun trip though.

In San Juan, I have done both a city tour & a rainforest tour. There are a lot of historical buildings in Old San Juan including two forts. The rain forest tour had a lot of beautiful scenery but not as many animals as I thought you would see. Maybe there were too many people around.

Grand Turk is more of a place to relax. They have some nice beaches & Jimmy Buffet's. I have not done so there, but I have heard there are some really nice places to snorkel. You can take a city tour, but the city is small & not much to see. There is a small history museum downtown that is part of the tour.

MAHO BEACH!! For sure. Its a small beach but so fun with all the planes. I did a Horseback ride through the rainforest a ways back in san juan which is fun, but you can even walk around town, go to senor frogs... whatever u are feelin.

I can only speak for Grand Turk at this time, and really don't waste your money as there is an awesome (free) beach right there at the dock with Margarittaville right there. Best day I have ever had was in Grand Turk!

I like Grand Turk. I spent the taking a tour of the island in a van and we saw a few things and if you decide on the tour, I will suggest you bring a couple bottles of water.

Well, crap! I was going to post pictures of the beaches but they will not post. sorry
