Early dining in MDR during port days

my husband and I would like to select the early dining time for our 7 day cruise, however two of our port days are scheduled to last 1-2 hours after our diner time would be. Do the excursions normally get you back in time for early dining or are we going to be stuck doing Lido deck meals those days? I don’t really like the idea of anytime dining but is that my best choice?

It really depends on the excursion.  Most of them will give the estimated end time for your excursion.  So you can pick your excursions accordingly.  But in general, they do not worry about your dinner time only your sail away time.

On a couple of occasions when we have had late evenings in port, our Carnival ship just did open seating for the evening rather than the early and late seatings.

We prefer your time dining so we don’t have to be concerned about getting back to the ship by a specific time for dinner. I’m not fond of eating in the Lido for my evening meal.
