Dodging the Bullet BUT Stay on Guard

When I lived in Florida years ago, hurricane season was more active but I saw too many people become complacent when "dodging the bullet".  Hurricane Andrew pushed my house AND in-ground pool 2 blocks over during the storm surge that followed. (I fortunately did not own it anymore but old neighbors sent me photos that were phenomenal.)

If you were fortunate enough to miss the storm, stay on guard - the worse part may yet to be ...Continue to stay safe and heed warnings.

We did sit out the storm in our condo in Cocoa Beach which is right on the beach. We are way up high and the building is very sturdy. Half of our neighbors stayed. Only minor damage to our condo complex happened mostly with landscaping that was just planted. We have hurricane shutters on all our windows and sliding glass doors to our balconies as do 99 % of the units in our condo. We did lose electricity Saturday morning. The neighbors who left couldn't get back to the condo because the city was blocked off due to a water treatment plant damage. So, they had to go back to where they were staying off the barrier island for another night. We did not get so much as a drop of rain in our unit even though we are on the corner. Hurricane shutters are a blessing. If I lived in a trailer park or close to a canal, river or lake that might flood or even in a low area prone to flooding, I would have left. One neighbor who did not have a hurricane shutter on a window did have that window blown in. Yes, we were very lucky. You are right that the danger is not over after the storm passes.

Glad all is well with you, Glomarrone.

Glad you rode this out. I have a few friends in your area, one came through okay, the other was In Canada at the time so he has yet to see the condition of his apartment.

Driving from Maryland Saturday we ran into a lot of rain.
