I enjoy this forum because my family and friends are tired of hearing my excitement about upcoming cruises....They don't get that the anticipation is half the fun! They don't want to hear about it on a daily basis ... They are Seasick listening to my cruise conversation ... BUT they all love the end result of the "new me" (more relaxed and stress free) that cruising brings ...
Do your Friends/Family Understand your Addiction?
We have managed to bring others into our addiction... and they understand. Since we have two major addictions (the other being Renaissance Festivals) some folks understand one but not the other. We have a small group that are kindred spirits and have both addictions with us. But much like you, this forum is my outlet for talking and sharing cruise related thoughts and feelings. I am so happy to have found it.
They know how much I love cruising so they tolerate me.
Most don't understand, so that's why I hang out here
One sister shares the addiction... the rest of our family and friends are happy to get rid of us from time to time.
Yes, and it will be useful later when I semi retire.
I know my coworkers don't and they get tired of my obsession and fixation, but I don't care.... lol
My friends and family are used to it after 20 years and put up with it. When I was semi-retired one company would call me for a contract, they would tell me the dates and then ask what cruises I have booked during that time. One company even got a temp to cover for me for a month that I was away during the contract. I love it, a temp to cover the desk so the temp (me) could go on a cruise.
My family sort of understands. They know it excites and amuses me. My co=workers seem to think I am even more obsessed than I actually am .. lol. Maybe because my computer screen is full of beautiful Caribbean scenes and my standard office attire is shorts, sandals and a hawaiian shirt or dashiki. For some strange reason even when I have a week off to do some work at home when I get back get asked if I was on a cruise ... I only wish.
Family and friends get it for the most part – and will often join us when we cruise. Co-workers on the other hand are often somewhere between envious and resentful, even though they choose not to go anywhere or do anything with their vacation days…
Most of my family and friends are into cruising also. I don't mention my cruises unless someone asks about what I have booked or where I just returned from cruising. I think that they enjoy traveling vicariously through me. I try not to spend too much time talking on my trips. They all love my photos.
