Do you perfer ocean liners or river cruises and why

Although I love big ships for the amenities that they offer, I also enjoy river cruising.  Next spring we are taking a river cruise through France and in the fall a paddle wheeler on the Mississippi.

The river cruises offer limited menu choices and less glamorous entertainment.  On the plus side you are right in the heart of the destination and shore excursions are included.  The bigger ship are harder to navigate. and less personal.

I enjoy alternating between the different types of cruising.  What do you think?

Hope that helps

My opinion is that the two are actually so far apart in their concepts that any fair comparison is out of the question.

My wife and I have a number of  river cruises under our belts and usually do one a year - actually two last year when we added the Mekong River to our list - and we have enjoyed every one.

But our hearts are really with ocean cruising and in particular Cunard which offers us everything we require.
