Do you have experience with travel insurance? I need some feedback.

Have you had to file a travel insurance claim? If so…

Can you share an example of how it helped you in your situation? Why did you have to file a claim? What was the process like? Would you recommend travel insurance for those going on a cruise?

Also, have you ever encountered a situation where you needed travel insurance but didn’t have it?

What was the result, and what would have been different if you did have insurance?

We had travel insurance and as it happened my Father died two hours before we were to fly to the home port for a cruise. We used the same company that we have auto and home insurance with already. It did take some time and documentation to get our refund but they worked with us and were very helpful. Basically we were out the cost of the insurance not the cost of the cruise, air and hotel.

You will have to decide for yourself is worth the risk to travel without insurance or not. Like all insurance situations can you afford to be without it if you need it?

Over the decades we have used travel insurance a few times. For everything from a common cold and the flu up to pending spine surgery. We got the Travel Insurance through Vacations To Go so that it covered the flights, hotel and cruise (Some of the cruise line Insurance just covers the cruise).

All 3 of the times it just took requesting a claim form along with a doctors slip stating what the illness was. It was very easy to do. For the Spine surgery I knew they could not argue that one, They had no problem paying out on the cold and flu since ships will not let ill people on them. They checked with the Cruise line, air line and hotel and paid me back anything that was not refundable. It only took a couple weeks.

Bottom line is: Do not travel without it.

Many have travelled without the Insurance, but I would never take the chance.

We buy it every time and have needed it twice, for medical reasons. Filing a claim is pretty straight forward with verification from the Dr.

We buy it every time. I've needed it once, and that one time was enough savings to pay for 10 cruises worth of insurance

We have used the insurance provided Princess. Three days prior to sailing my brother had a major stroke. I called the insurance company and they were awesome. I needed a form signed by the Doctor. Everything was taking care of, I highly recommend travel insurance.

I had to have emergency surgery a few days before a cruise so we had to cancel. Luckily we had travel insurance so file a claim. I had to submit my medical records for the past 6 months, proof of what I paid for the cruise, and proof of the cruise line cancelation policies but I received a complete refund.

Thankfully, I have not had to use travel insurance on any of my trips, but I still buy it every time. I feel like the one time I do not have it will be the one time that I need it. You are purchasing peace of mind in my opinion.

What are the best insurance companies to use besides the cruise lines.
