Do you gain or lose weight on a cruise?

With all the food available 24 hours a day, and no limits, do you gain weight when on a cruise?

I remember seeing on a question on another forum a few years ago, from a first time cruiser, and he asked if he should pack pants one or 2 sizes larger to be able to take advantage of all the "free" food on his cruise.

When we are on a cruise I really don't gain at all. I have basically the same breakfast and lunch and then enjoy an appie, entree and sometimes dessert. I use the stairs all the time and make sure I walk laps for 5 km before breakfast and then another 5 throughout the day. Love my Fitbit.

I eat more, but I also exercise more, so I end up about even.

When I was in my 30's I could eat everything in sight and never gained an ounce (it would tick off my table mates that I'd eat 2 dinners and 2 desserts and then eat at the midnight buffet).  Then as I got older I would gain a couple pounds on a cruise.   Now that I have accepted that I can not eat everything and anything I can go on a cruise and not gain.  I also now will pre-cruise diet to give myself a couple pounds to put on.

We used to gain weight. But those were early cruises.  Now, we just eat normally.  You know, like humans.

I do eat normal on board and I may have a few snacks or a little room service.  We all know of someone that will take pictures of the meal he ordered for hours before he eats it.

I usually stay about the same since I am more active.  I may gain a pound or so, but not any more than that.

We find that we wander so much more on the ship than we do at home around our neighbourhood. There's always something to see in another area of the ship to keep us active.

Like others, we usually stay about the same. In fact, I even lost a few pounds on one cruise.Big Smile

I usually gain a little but then lose it once I am home.  Recently a neighbor told me that the ship she and her family sailed on was on only had specialty restaurants and a buffet.  The buffet turned her off so she lost ten pounds - Huh???  I sent her a photo of the Main Dining Room on that ship but I never heard from her again about this issue.  I think that this was her first cruise. You gotta laugh!

Oh my! That's a HUGE loss for anyone at anytime. She must have been pretty hungry by the end of the week.
