Our bad experiences have been when they lose the "number tag" and put our luggage with another number.  They should have a place where luggage without "numbers" are so that if your bag is not where it should be you don't have to look at each section.  We could take our own luggage off, but prefer not to.

We have no problems, with Carnival.  If you get off too early, with your carry on, you got to wait till the busses fills up to take you to your car parking lot or to the airport, so you may as well stay on board for another cup of coffee.  If our luggage tag comes off, no big deal as Carnival puts the luggage in lot numbers in the terminal, so if the tag you keep as a receipt is lot one, you go in that area to get it..

Worst experience was doing self-disembark on Carnival Magic.  There was a schedule and announcements were made over the PA system, but there was NO enforcement.  Pure and utter chaos.  You couldn't even get off the elevators due to the crowds in the Atrium. We finally went back up a couple of decks and let the masses fight it out.

This was NOT due to ship size--self-disembark on her sister ship, the Breeze, was smooth.

Going on our 1st Carnival cruise in November, and I hope to pack light enough to be able to do that as well. lol lol

That was the problem... they put it in lot 9 and that wasn't even close.  But, that was long ago and far away.Wink

We’ve always had good experiences with debarkation but we have always had Faster to the Fun, so we had a specific meeting place and left as a group.

I've always carried on.  For me I've found it's best to leave very early or very late.  I try to avoid the bulk of the crowd in that middle time.

When I say very late, I mean almost up to the time they say they want you off the ship.  If you do it that way there are plenty of places to relax and read or surf the web with your smartphone or tablet.  But having said that the lines move a lot faster now with the new immigration procedures.  They just look at your passport briefly and maybe ask a question or two, sometimes they don't ask anything at all and just say have a good day after making sure you aren't on the naughty list.
