Dining Times

Do you always get the dining request that you made when you booked your cruise? If you do not, do you try to change it and are you successful?

Only one time we could not get the early seating time. We were wait listed for it. When we arrived on the ship, we were assigned to late seating-8:15 pm. This was too late for us. We finally were reassigned the next night. It took us 2 hours to eat that first night.

Only once we did not get our request. It was fixed the day we boarded. But these days we usually request anytime dining.

I have been stuck with late dining when I requested early. I tried to get it changed but had no luck as the ship was full. It was when I was traveling solo, so I stuck with the late dining as it was a table of solo travelers. I did not want to get stuck at a table with a family or traveling group and be the odd man out. I did grab a snack on the Lido at about 5, 8 is just to long a period from lunch time.

Lately we have been getting our preferred time but have experienced not getting it in the past. It is one of the reasons we pick "My Time" dining and a table for 2.

I guess that many of us at some point don't get our requested dining time. For me it was because we booked last minute. Thanks for replying.

We always request early sitting, and we've always gotten it.

I think that the solution is to book early and state your dining preference at that time. Recently we did do that on HAL for the World voyage. The cruise line said that we were wait listed for that seating. What! There were so many empty cabins that this was ridiculous. We couldn't accept late seating so we told our TA if we couldn't get early seating, we were canceling. And, we would have done so. Luckily, HAL changed its mind and gave us Early Seating. I was very disappointed with HAL for doing this. Obviously they were holding out Early Dining for those booking more expensive cabins later on in the year. Even though the issue was resolved, it may affect my future cruises on HAL. I am hoping this was just an issue on the long World Voyage. We shall see. This was first real complaint with HAL. OK one other is the lack of mini fridges in staterooms other than suites. They should do something about that, too.

We prefer early seating and have always gotten it.

When we can, we always choose anytime dining for its flexibility. But, I can understand why others prefer set dining times. Flex dining just works for us.

I wonder how many passengers actually request late seating? I only know of one couple, friends of mine, who like late seating. But, they rarely went to the shows. We took a cruise together and only saw each other around the pool for several hours because of our different dining times.
