Cruises Scheduled for St Thomas may be diverted to St Croix - BONUS

So I've heard an unconfirmed story that cruise ships scheduled for St. Thomas in the fall/winter may be diverted to St. Croix - MY ISLAND!!!!! This would be awesome and depending upon which area they port in (Christiansted or Fredericksted) - lots to see and do ... I should go on every cruise and do guided tours!

For those unfamiliar with St. Croix, it's close proximity to Buck Island would offer some of the best snorkeling / diving in the area. Christiansted is a much preferred "port" but it may not be large enough for the really big ships.

Will keep you posted as I hear more!

Just don't waste your money on those flavoured Cruzan rums. Blech....Sad

After Hurricane Hugo, rum was $1.99 a bottle and milk was $8.00 a gallon ... people used the rum to brush their teeth - lol.

Years ago, cruise ships stopped regularly at St. Croix. I don't know what happened, other than St. Thomas and the other islands really built up. And had more to offer.

I guess I answered my own question.

I think part of it had to do with when the refinery shut down and crime escalated. Fredericksted was not a great area to start with and really got bad...St Croix was more the "working" island, St Thomas the "tourist" spot and St. John the "nature" area.

I don't know why, but I've wanted to visit St. Croix for years now. Maybe it's because it's less visited by cruise ships! I am always drawn to the 'off the beaten path' ports! It just looks gorgeous.

It is ...when the refinery was open, thousands lived and worked there but when they left it hit the economy hard and crime soared. It's back under control and they're struggling to flourish again. I'll post some pix later.
