Cruise roster section

Hi there...this is to the mods or whomever runs this site.  New member, but experienced cruiser.  Got a couple questions re the "cruise roster" section.  I noticed I get no email notifications when someone posts to a cruise I group I joined.  Checked my settings and they look right.   There is a box to be notified in this section, but not in rosters..Second, there are no "topics" or "threads"...just an endless stream of posts.  It makes it very difficult to have even short conversations... I am assuming that section was designed that way?   thanks for any clarification...

`Welcome to the forum, Yankee47.

As far as the email notifications, I will leave that to the admin.

As far as the "cruise roster" section, are you referring to the roll calls? (found at cruiseline.com/rollcall)

In that section, each separate sailing has a dedicated thread, but only one thread per sailing.

As far as the main site, (cruiseline.com/forum) there are several sections named on the left side of the page that you can go to. In each section, all the posts are listed in order of last post made. At the top of that menu is a listing for all posts. Since this board is not as busy as some other forums, there is no need to have hundreds of separate topics on the main page.

Once you get used to the differences at this site, you will find it is rather easy to navigate with the added benefit of a very friendly membership.

If you do need help, specifically from an admin, you can go to the "contact us" link at the bottom of the page -- this will ensure that they receive your question. They are more than eager to try to ensure you find what you are looking for.

Thanks for that.  I will indeed ask "admin"...

FYI...I asked "admin" as you suggested,, but no reply as yet... btw, I notice a few threads where there are literally thousands of replies...how do you navigate something like that?

Those are our off-topic threads. You can try to read from the beginning, or just jump right in. They do not remain on topic, sometimes changing topic 10 times in one thread. (referring specifically to "Where is everyone" and "After Midnight"). Feel free to jump right into the middle of it and join the fun.

The other threads generally remain on topic, although we are known to interject friendly sarcasm from time to time. We do not mean any harm in it.

Yes, the forum may seem like an insurmountable obstacle, just feel free to ask a question in a new thread. In the few years I have been here, I do not think I have ever seen an answer of "A search would have revealed the answer" or "Google it yourself". We will answer your question. Especially if it involves a rice cooker Big Smile(old joke imported from a now defunct forum on Carnival.com)

Hoping to see a lot more of you on the forum. Don't be afraid to post!

Also, just to make sure, did you go into your profile settings and check all the applicable boxes on that page? You can reach it by clicking on your avatar, then on "User Dashboard", "Edit Account Settings", "Email Notifications".

Yep, did all that, and get no notifications if/when someone posts on the two rosters I joined...I'll wait a day or two and ask the pooh-bahs again...as for the other, thanks for the explanation...no...not going to read ump thousand posts...but now I understand the format...and if its something I think is reasonably important enough to ask some other ...kaff kaff…"old-hands" I'll start a new thread...don't worry bout the friendly sarcasm...that's fine...I know the difference...been in groups where trolls and cretins were the rule, instead of the exception..and answers like you used as examples were the norm....thanks again.....

I rarely get notifications on any of my posts here on cruiseline, but they show up on shipmate threads (the app available through the same folks).  When there are a lot of posts and you want to read the last post or the last few just click he last poster and it should take you to the end and you can check them backwards from there.

Thanks AUNTPINKIE...I get notifications all the time from the FORUM section....lots of fun....its the roster section I was curious about...

Good to know.Thanks.
