Cost of Checked Luggage

Found this chart put out by Southwest Airlines interesting - not sure what "Other Select Fees" means... I've always liked their free bags policy and no charge to change your flight ... Seeing some cheap fares popping up randomly that weren't there yesterday so keep an eye out if you're pricing flights.

For some reason the little chart did not come in but you can figure it out ...

SWA other select fees:  Early Bird checkin $15, Upgraded boarding (getting a higher A number) - $30 or $40, Unaccompanied minor, $50.

Alaska Airlines bag fees:  $25 for first and second bag, $75 for third, Change fee - $75 if done online, $100 soon to $125 if done over phone.

WestJet charges $25 for the first checked bag - not sure about the 2nd.

WestJet charges $25 for the first checked bag - not sure about the 2nd.

Fees do add up.

It's bloody ridiculous.  I feel bad for the passengers.  We are charging them left and right and then stuffing them into a tube with little room for their legs.  Wish we could go back to the days of the Pan Am flying clippers where you went to a sit down dining area in the plane and there was a lounge you could sit and relax in.
