Charleston, SC

We are sailing Carnival out of Charleston, SC in January 2019.  We were interested in a "Park and Cruise" Hotel down there but didn't know if anyone had any suggestions or experiences they might be able to share with us.  We want to be able to enjoy our cruise from day one without having to rush to embarkation.  We purchased the Faster to the Fun Pass, so we figured we would just stay the night before to be able to utilize it the most. It's hard to figure out which hotels are the better ones just looking online, so I thought I might ask to see if anyone had personal experience with it.  Thanks so much!!!

We always stay at bare minimum the night before each cruise. I would be interested in reading on what to do in the port as well especially local foods.

Sorry, I have never sailed from this port. Enjoy your cruise. I hope that someone on the site can help you.

I can't  comment on the hotels, as its been about 20 years since I have been there, but there is plenty to do in Charleston.

The place is rife with Civil War artifacts (the CSS Hunley is displayed there, as well as other museums).

Fort Sumter at Patriots Point

The Slave Market downtown (named so because that is where the slaves shopped there, not because they were sold there) has a lot of interesting crafts for sale.

A whole lot of great seafood restaurants.

USS Yorktown (decommissioned aircraft carrier) at Patriots point.

Lots of beaches if you can get yourself out of the town.

There several hotels that offer park and cruise. But you've got to do some shopping for them. I used the Hampton Inn right off the bridge going into Mt Pleasant. If you plan on staying more than one night, I had to make two reservations or I would have paid that extra cost for both nights.

Like the Reb said, you have so much available for you to see in that port.
