Carnival Vs Norwegian

Has anyone been on both and can tell me the favorite?

We have always sailed Carnival but I'm interested in the extra "perks" you get with Norwegian booking like beverages, excursions, etc...

I've read different things on Norwegian that i'm not crazy about.

One being having to pay and make reservations for the entertainment.

Two.. the small rooms even tho we always do interior.

Three ... Norwegian nickels and dimes you with everything

Has anyone cruised Both and can give me some pros and cons??

Our experts put Carnival and Norwegian head-to-head: http://cruiseline.com/advice/how-to-book/pick-a-line/smackdown-norwegian-vs-carnival

Thanks... I saw that.

I was also looking for people that have cruised both recently.  I'm not sure when this head to head was done?

You will find people that are brand loyal to both.  Cruising is very subjective to the individual.  I have done both Carnival and NCL,  I happen to prefer Carnival over NCL.

1.  I don't want to have to make reservations for dinner and shows.   How will I know ahead of time what night I feel like Sushi and what night I feel like steak?  how do I know what night I will feel like seeing a show or what night I feel like an early evening ?

2.  I happen to like assigned seating,   I have been lucky and only 1 time have I had a MDR table that was complete duds.   I like having dinner at the same time with the same staff every night so we get to know each other (I think it is better service that way).  Assigned seating also lets you get to know your dinner mates over the week or two. (I have made friends with some dinner mates and we keep in touch still years later)

3.  In my opinion the free dining options on Carnival are better food then the free dining on NCL. I have been bitched out by loyal NCL people about this,  but it is still my opinion.

4.  I like the comedy club on Carnival.

5.  I like the burrito bar and guys Burgers, the Deli and Pizza more then the grill on NCL.

6.  I have had better service and more fun on Carnival.

7. I like a full bathroom with my cabin,  not a sink in the bedroom and a toilet closet and shower closet that the new NCL ships have.

8. Carnival to me is just more fun.

The above is just my opinion out of 5 times on Carnival and 3 times on NCL.

Thanks so much for the opinion... All the things you listed I agree on.  That is the things that are deterring me from leaving Carnival.

We prefer Norwegian.  Sailings out of NY year round.   Restaurant options.  Relaxed atmosphere. Better spas & thermal suites.

MD I am in the same boat as you, metaphorically speaking of course  ;)  We always cruised with Carnival and the last one we were on left us rather disappointed.  My wife suggested we try NCL so we are booked on the Sky for Oct.  I am skeptical from what I read but of course, you take all advise with a grain of salt.

I am open to change and willing to try new things, so I am hopeful that NCL will leave me pleasantly surprised.

Do you shop at WalMart and Dollar stores ?   Do you want meatloaf and mac & cheese on your vacation ?    Do you want to travel with a couple thousand people, each of whom think they are entitled and privileged?   If so, then  by all means book with Carnival.

I am biased. I won't hide that. I have always gone NCL and love it. I love the relaxed atmosphere and the fact that I can eat dinner at 5 or at 9. Whichever suits my mood and schedule. I am not pigeon holed into a set time for the MDR every night.

I have looked at others and if I do try something different it would be RCL or Princess or HAL. ust something about Carnival is not my cup of tea.

I have cruised over 20 times on Carnival , NCL about 5 times , Carnival has my vote....Princess and RCCL are my favorites

BAK I believe that your statement against Carnival sounds rather jaded and is not shared by the rest.  Every line has specific clientelle and budgets.  It is rather harsh to compare them to Walmart or Dollar stores.  It is one thing to be biased and offer your opinion but another to tear the other down
