Worst Cruise Experience Ever, Lost my Luggage

In response to review, CrusinTim says ...

Sorry you had to experience this issue but I would like to point out a couple of things. The first is that luggage transfer from curbside to ship is controlled by the port workers and not Carnival cruise lines. Your luggage being left behind is the fault of the Port of New Orleans and you may want to contact them. The customer service rep went above and beyond in helping you get some kind of clothes to hold you over until your luggage was forwarded to the ships next port. To ask for a full refund AND a discount on your next cruise from Carnival is not warranted since it was not their fault. I have read many stories in the past of cruisers that had their luggage lost by the airline. All the cruise line can do is contact the airline for you and try to find your luggage and have it sent to the ships next port. Kind of the same situation here. As for Grand Cayman, I can only assume there may have been a storm system in the path of the ships route anticipated so the Captain decided for safety reasons to to avoid having to change the itinerary to sail early. I have sailed 12 times and 5 of those with Carnival (including the Dream in 2010) and as unfortunate as it is, situations like yours are isolated incidents. Don't give up on Carnival for things that were not in their control. As I said, contact the Port of New Orleans for an explanation. Best of luck on your next sailing.......

Sorry to hear your horror story. Like CruisinTim, when it comes to luggage, I have not heard about any story that included a refund of the cruise... The onboard credit, yes, but again it did not seem to do you much good :( If I were you I would be contacting the port, and customer service or completing any survey that is sent to you ( I know RC does that). Here's to hoping the next trip will be uneventful, and fight/argument free

Just some food for thought on the next one.  My wife and I always carry a full change of clothing in our carry on for such and event.  Whether it is the cruiseline or the airline, no one likes to be caught without clean underpants!  :)  I certainly sympathize with you on no clothes fitting in the shops, as I too am a big man.

Although that is rather distressing, and I am sure had I been in your shoes, I would have been upset too, but sadly there really wasn't much they could do.  A refund and credit is a little much of a demand, but it was decent that they gave you credit at all.

Hopefully your next cruise will go smoother!

Clem:  Nobody form Carnival will read your post here.   This is not Carnivals web site.   your TA will also not red this.   This is an independent web site for reviews and information on all cruise lines and all things cruise.

Sorry for your lost luggage,  but as pointed out that is port workers,  not Carnival Cruise Line.

Suggestions for the future

1.  Always have your toiletries and a change of clothing in your carry on bag.  this is good for airports also,  they can loose your luggage also.

2.   Consider taking your luggage yourself,  that way as soon as your on the ship you can unpack and you know you have everything with you.

3.  Contact support here to have your E-MAIL blurred so it is not out for everybody in the world to see. (bottom of the page has a "Contact us" link)

Best wishes that your next cruise goes smoothly.

Thanks for the review. Hope your next cruise is a great one.

I do the carry on/day bag as well. Something for dinner, a bathind suite, and another set of clothes. Luckily, I have not had the lost baggage issue and *knock on wood* won't have to... Fingers crossed.

I've been the victim of lost luggage while cruising. Its not fun at all, that was before I had the notion to carry and extra set of clothes in my carry on. The luggage was delivered 2 days later to Jamaica as my 2nd day of the cruise was a sea day. My problem was the airlines. My luggage got on a plane after mine. I carry onto the ship and carry off of the ship now. Trying to get to fun quickly isn't more important that me knowing that I have my bags.
