Cancelled cruise

I , received an e-mail yesterday notifying me that our October cruise had been cancelled.    I had a sneaking suspicion something was wrong when I couldn’t view my reservation on NCL’s site.  All I would get was this weird, Lost at Sea notice.   It was a 10 day RT FROM nY to Quebec, with an O/N in Quebec.    It has been changed to 12 nites beginning in Quebec, ending in NY with a couple of New England ports thrown in.     So, now, I have to pay to get up to Quebec, stay in a hotel a day early ( and still have the overnite ).    Now that I’m home, I looked up a couple of other cruises.   Royal only has 9 night cruises with what I would call, rushed itineraries, that is, not a lot of sea days.   Celebrity, has a 14 day round trip out of NJ.  Costs more than NCL, but I don’t know if the added costs balance out, probably. This was supposed to be a birthday cruise .

Any thoughts ?

Sorry to hear about that. There is always the option to book B 2 B  out of Boston. They have 7 days Boston to Quebec and 7 days back with different ports going each way. This way you could avoid the hotel and day early arrival. Unfortunately that itinerary is always in high demand and only occurs for a few trips a year so it is expensive. I hope you are able to work things out and make it work. That is one cruise I would love to do but the cost is a bit of a roadblock.

Found it.  Sadly it’s on the Dawn.  But we may consider it anyway.

For now, sticking with the new itinerary.

Airfares are terrible

Sorry to hear this.  I would probably go with the new, but then I would have to fly anyway both directions.  Wish I could be more helpful.

Amazing how fast the accessible cabins sell out on Celebrity.  First of all. The Summit doesn’t have too many, which is a shame.

Airfares to Quebec are brutal.  They turn a 1 1/2 hour flight into an all day trek.   NY > Detroit > Toronto > Quebec............7 friggin hours !!     I did find some non-stops.  I’ll have to talk with my ace TA.

What I don’t understand is why it was changed.   The 10 nite r/t  from NY was a popular cruise. Why force your customers to fly to Quebec, and stay in a hotel which just adds costs ?

And if you think flying to Quebec from NY is easy, holy crap.........it should be about an hour and a half.   But these airlines turn it into an all day excursion.   You can board a plane at 8 am, and not arrive til 6 pm.  THATS 10 HOURS !    NY > Detroit (sit around ). > Toronto ( sit around ). >. Quebec.   And of course each time you change planes, your luggage is taken off the plane by someone who may or may not get the next airport code right.   So when you get to the ship, your luggage may, or may not, be there.   And even with all of their tag scanners, you find out your luggage somehow ended up in Hawaii, here is $100, go buy a wardrobe.
