Cajoling to Cruise

I have a friend who is trying to convince her mother to cruise. Knowing I cruise a lot, she asked me to help squelch her fears.  It seemed her main concern was that she wouldn't fit in and didn't have the outfits she thought she needed etc. That was easy to answer as she is only doing a 4 day cruise, no formal nights, and should feel comfortable with simple casual clothes. There are people from all walks of life and "fitting in" is not an issue - everybody does their own thing.

However, at the end of the day, I told my friend that I did not agree with trying to talk someone into a cruise because if they are miserable, it's a long time at sea.

Do you try to talk anyone into cruising?

We were just trying to sell our friend's DH on cruising yesterday with our three man tag team of DH DD, and myself Big Smile He hasn't agreed to go yet, but he has changed from "Never, nope, no way" to asking a few questions about cruising. We'll get him!!

We often encourage folks we know to cruise. It isn't for everyone (much to my surprise) but those that fall "in love" with it are very thankful we "talked them into it."

Yes, I finally convinced my husband to cruise after several years of trying. He really thought he'd hate being in crowds, and would be with party animals, and would be bored. He finally agreed to watch some You Tube videos of cruising, and then gave in. He loves it! Convincing my adult children has been impossible so far, even though they were on a 4 day cruise as pre teens and had a ton of fun. None of the 3 want to cruise again, nor do their spouses.

I always suggest it and explain the pros to it but some people aren't as easily intrigued by it as perhaps another type of vacation. We've had several people go with us as first-timers that wound up cruising with us again because they were hooked. At the same token we've had people very interested in going with us, but aren't ready to commit to a 7 or 8 day cruise.

We had to talk my father-in-law into cruising since his frame of reference was WWII troop transport ships. We did talk him into it, and he was hooked.

I have to admit that I do brag a lot about my cruising. I don't expect to change peoples' minds about cruising but I do set the matter straight about some of their fears. A few have actually gone on cruises and enjoyed them. Some went on cruises that I suggested that they not go on but they didn't blame me when they didn't enjoy the experience.
