Broken Wheel of Bag

Our bag wheel was broken on embarkation on our first cruise. Carnival has given us a letter that states to submit receipt on repair for consideration.

Any advice if they do reimburse and how much amount is appreciated.

We do not want to spend hundreds and then not be reimbursed. Please reply.

It happens. All I would suggest is to buy better luggage, but even that's no guarantee. Wheels are the weak point of luggage. We only use hard side, Samsonite, with 4 swivel wheels. Makes self Debarkation very easy. Don't expect a lot from Carnival. If you know a member of Direct Buy warehouse club, they sell luggage at great prices. Ask them to make the purchase for you.

We’ve tried to have bags fixed before under warranty. Seems the only authorized location in our town is almost an hour away in a pretty bad neighborhood and we still had to pay some fees. You can try submitting a quote for the repairs rather than a receipt – you might get lucky!

On the last cruise we were on the spine of our large suitcase was crushed and damaged. I made a note to let our cruise agent at NCL know about it. I now have a new suitcase thanks to a gift card. Stuff happens, if you are claiming anything regarding luggage or belongings. Send pictures, dot your I's and cross your T's. Follow up, Results will surprise you.

We plan to get an estimate and call the 1800 phone number they have given in the letter this weekend.

Thanks for suggesting to take pictures of the damaged bag. We will do so asap.

Here is an update:

We checked with luggage repair shops. They said that the bag was beyond repair.

Sent an email to Guest care. Received an automatic reply that they will read within 7-10 business days.

In the meantime, we received our CC and found we were overcharged - different from the bill they gave us on the last night of the cruise.

Called and talked with the operator: Darlene. She was quite courteous and listened to us. She said the charge was for towels and bathrobe which we never used. Who would steal used beach/pool towels? She credited us for the extra charge. Good we checked our CC. For the bag she will have someone from the company call us within a couple of days.

So we are now waiting for the phone call. Plan to buy a new bag to replace the broken one - probably from Costco.

Interesting situation with the credit card charge for the towels.

I must remember to check my bill after our cruise.

I wonder how often that happens and does not get discovered.

I know. Wonder if it was a genuine error or way to make some extra money????

Those towels were on the chair, neatly folded, from day 1. Our kids picked up and returned towels at the pool itself. ie. we never took them from the stateroom.

We had checked the bill at 4 pm., the day before, which included gratuity for 4. They also dropped off the copy of the bill at 11 pm. the night before we departed which was no different. Our CC showed an extra charge for $22. The refund will now be credited against the next month's bill. Will have to check that one to make sure they did give us the refund.

Darlene, Carnival Guest Service, was quite nice to deal with.

Another Update:

Checked with another Luggage Repair Shops who informed us that it was not just the wheel but that the plastic/fiberglass was cracked. There were broken pieces underneath the cloth which confirmed that the bag was beyond repair.

Called the Guest Rep and were then informed that the Luggage dept had been forwarded our email.We have not yet received a reply from them.

Finally bought a new bag as I have to travel for work. We have submitted receipt and pictures along with a cover letter to the Cruise Luggage Dept. both by fax and email. Hopeful that they will reimburse us as the bag is not cheap.

Thanks for the update and please continue to update us. We had a bag ruined on a Carnival cruise when it was soaked with rum that another passenger was trying to smuggle aboard. Obviously this wasn’t Carnival’s fault, and they laundered everything in the bag free of charge for us, but it was only a two-night cruise so I had to where rum-soaked pants the first night. Now we have a brand new bag with a big stain on it!

So sorry to hear about your bag and clothes. Sad

So far no communication from the cruise line. We will wait until next week before we call them to follow up.
