Beverage Packages

have you ever purchased a beverage package on board a cruise ship?  Did you find that it saved you money?  Would you purchase one again?

The only beverage package that I ever purchased on a cruise ship was one that offered a glass of wine with dinner nightly.  This is only offered on Grand or World Cruises.  I know it was less expensive that what we spend on buying by the bottle so I will do again when available.

I have only purchased a coffee card on princess. I have not purchased the alcohol package, if I drank that much I would be single.

We purchased a beverage package on the last cruise we went on.  I'm believe we saved some money overall.  The best thing for me is not having to worry if I want a drink because of my wallet.  When you're on vacation it should be total relaxation.  I don't want to worry about finances.  I figure an average drink on the cruise ship with tax and tip is approx. $10./ ea.  When you buy the beverage package that is included.  Figure the total cost divided by 10 and if you think it is worth it go for it.  I like having the piece of mind even if I don't drink enough to cover it.  To answer your question YES for my reasons I would purchase it again and again.

I purchased the Cheers package on our last cruise. we had set the rooms up to where I was the only one over 21 in the room. The wife, son and aide who were over 21 were in another room. I did enjoy having the package and not worry about the price of any of the beverages. but I do not think I will get it again. Now that everyone is over 21, it just is not worth it to me unless you do drink the drinks, sodas, specialty coffees and milkshakes. I just do not want to pay the additional price for the others. The boys now have to pay their own way.

Yes, and I would get it again.  It is nice not to have to worry about the prices of the drinks (which keep going up while the glasses keep getting smaller).  You have to figure out ahead of time how much you are planning on drinking to determine if the price makes sense for you.  On Carnival, the total cost for a 7 day cruise is $402.  At $8 to $10 per drink you need to consume 40-50 drinks over the course of the trip (5.7 to 7.1 drinks per day).  On a port-heavy itinerary, that may not be feasible, but if you have a lot of sea days, you can save money.
